Green Hope Foundation Kiribati
At GHF Kiribati, we seek to combat the devastating impacts of climate change that are afflicting so many Small Island Developing States across the world. Our team of passionate young people work tirelessly to ensure feminist climate justice through concrete, ground-level actions, aiding in the creation of a more sustainable and climate-just future for their islands, while ensuring that the most vulnerable - women, children, indigenous peoples, seniors - are not left behind.
Solar Water Farms
Our Solar Water Farm and Distillation System combats the increased levels of brackish groundwater as a result of climate change-induced rising sea levels. It is a unique technology which uses solar power to harness rainwater and groundwater to provide clean water to the local community for drinking and agricultural use.
Mangrove Plantations
Mangroves form a very important part of the Kiribati island ecosystem & are instrumental in mitigating climate change. Our members in Kiribati take care of their island & protect their local biodiversity by planting thousands of Te Tongo mangroves.
Growing Food in Pots with Indigenous Women
As a result of climate change increasing soil salinity, food insecurity has become a major issue. Our members in Kiribati plant cabbage, watermelon, eggplant and tomatoes as part of our Grow Your Own Food Campaign, with the indigenous women of the rural communities, promoting eating local, going organic, good health and food security.
Health & Sanitation Workshops
Our members conduct health and sanitation workshops for their communities, educating them on keeping themselves & their surroundings clean. We distribut water drums to the families and stationery items to the children.
Beach Cleanups
Our young members conduct beach cleanups to keep their coastal communities and oceans clean and protect their local mangroves and biodiversity.
Waste Management Workshops
Our team in Kiribati conduct sustainability workshop for children & young people on the importance of sustainable consumption, waste reduction and protecting the biodiversity of their island.
